Public schools in the entire province are expecting to welcome about 87, 569 enrollees but as of June 9, 2017, only a total of 85,091 students have so far attended classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12. With a decrease of 2.76 percent, Ilocos Norte schools division superintendent Vilma Eda is hopeful some of these students extended their summer vacation and they will be back to school until June 16, the deadline for late enrollees. Based on the Enhanced Basic Education Information System data, the decrease in enrollment ranges from 65 to 1,674 learners from all grade levels, having the most number in Grade 7 and Grade 11 respectively. For the primary level, the enrollment in all districts decreased except for Burgos in the first district of the province. On the secondary level, at least 14 out of 21 municipalities recorded a decrease in enrollment figure except for the towns of Adams. Bacarra, Bangui, Dumalneg, Piddig, Pinili and Solsona.
