With the late discovery of deep creek within the planned area of expansion, Laoag City officials took a step back from the sanitary landfill project. The creek, estimated to be the size of a 10-storey building deep according to city engineer Roy Tomas, has thrown a monkey- wrench in the project; as this would impact the environment around the facility negatively. He revealed that the creek was not discovered in earlier survey but during a more thorough investigation, the creek was discovered.
