The city government here is set to partner with the Government of Laoag Employees Development Cooperative (GLEDCO) to convert the city’s controlled dumpsite into a sanitary landfill. Though still in the planning stage, city assessor Engr. Ruben Domingo said they have been successful in negotiating for the purchase of 12 hectares of land around the dumpsite. The additional lot would serve as extension of the dumpsite prior to its conversion into a real sanitary landfill. The joint venture will be public- private partnership with GLEDCO having operational control of the project.
