International Museum Day (IMD) 2011

Since 1977, the IMD has been celebrated all over the world by member countries of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to provide a reminder of the significant role museums play in the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. Decided by the ICOM Advisory Committee to better coordinate its international celebration, this year’s theme aims to direct public attention on the basics of our collective memory, to the fragility of itscarriers, and heed the importance and meaning of their contents.

The International Museum Day 2011 will be celebrated at the Divine Word College of Bangued in Abra on May 23, 2011. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Museums and Memory.”

The activities of the IMD 2011 include a general meeting of all members of the Northern Luzon Association of Museums (NLAM), museum visits, and lectures on the following topics: 1) Cultural Properties, both natural and cultural; 2) Museums and community; and 3) Laws Protecting the Filipino Heritage.
