Palitada

(May 20, 2004 to July 31, 2004)

Skin of the Church.

The Ayala Museum presents the National Touring Exhibition PALITADA: Skin of the Church.  The exhibition uses a multi-media approach– video, photographs, and actual specimens — to show details of authentic surfaces of churches and conventos built before 1898, such as palitada or lime plaster placed to protect and smoothen walls.

PALITADA hopes to inspire restorers and clergymen, among others, to be more sensitive to the original fabric of their churches.  It also seeks to draw the attention of researchers, architects, historians, chemists, designers, conservationists and others to the need for more investigation in this field.

The travelling of the exhibition is partially supported by a grant from the Fundacion Santiago.
