Thousands of Dingreños [Dingras natives] paid honor to a heroine, Josefa Llanes Escoda in her 119th birthday celebration held at the Municipal Civic Center in Dingras, Ilocos Norte. Ms. Escoda, also known as the “Florence Nightingale of the Philippines”, was a war heroine, great civic leader, and social worker. Ms. Escoda was a well-known Filipino advocate of women’s right of suffrage and founder of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP).
