Fishermen rescue dolphin caught in fishing net off Ilocos Norte coast
BADOC, Ilocos Norte—Fishermen here have rescued a two-meter long dolphin that got entangled in a fishing net in the municipal waters of this town.
Francisco Vergara related to authorities here that he went off to sea at about 3 am on June 18 and saw the distressed dolphin caught in his fishing net in the sea off Pagsanaan Sur and Pagsanaan Norte.
Other fishermen saw Vergara and help him brought the dolphin to shore. The local team of Bantay Dagat immediately alerted authorities to rescue the endangered marine mammal.
Arthur Valente in his capacity as fishery regulatory coordinator of the Office of the Provincial Agriculture of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte said the entangled dolphin appears to be strong.
