Locals put up own museo as gift from the past for present, future
Bacarra, Ilocos Norte—Inspired by having produced the most number of priests in the not-so-known “Vatican town” of the Philippines, the popular balikbayan capital of Ilocos Norte has made moves to regain its lost glory as an ecocultural destination for tourists by putting up the Museo de Bacarra.
Housed at the old two-storey convent of St. Andrew the Apostle adjacent to the Roman Catholic church and tower declared by then- President Ferdinand E. Marcos as a national cultural treasure by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 260, a visit to the museo show- cases the rich history, religious and economic lifestyles of the locals.
