Mariano Marcos State University’s research program on “National Integrated Research, Development and Commercialization Program for Sweet Sorghum for Food, Fuel and Bioethanol” was proclaimed national winner by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in its search for the 2011 Best Higher Education Institutions (HEI) Research Program in the country.

A monetary incentive of P1million was awarded to MMSU for its sorghum program for being the national winner and another P300,000 and a plaque as regional winner. Another P100,000 and plaque was given for being the second runner-up for Region I for the program on biocharcoal.
