From the outbreak of the Pacific War in December 1941 to its end in the summer of 1945, the nation had lost countless lives and seen the destruction of so many homes. The Philippines was a country in ruins. One such story is this narrative penned by Aurora Lopez Sacro Ver.

Japanese troops occupy Laoag, two days after landing in Vigan. Governor-elect Roque Ablan, evacuates provincial government personnel to Solsona; he organizes resistance from here with members of the Provincial Prison Guards and a sprinkling of civic minded citizens and Army reservists.
