Suggested Itinerary

  • Visit the Juan Luna Shrine, the biggest “colonial” house in Badoc. Marking the birthplace of Juan Luna, one of the country’s most celebrated painter, the Luna shrine is a two-level construction of clay bricks and molave wood.
  • Although the church in Badoc is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, it is more renowned as a shrine to La Virgen Milagrosa, the Miraculous Virgin. Her image was allegedly recovered from the sea in 1620, together with another image of the Santo Cristo or Crucified Christ.
  • The wooden image of La Virgen Milagrosa, now the patroness of the Diocese of Laoag, stands in the center of the main retablo in the church. The statue echoes the graceful sway of smaller 17th century images of ivory.
  • Tourists who prefer action should not miss a trip to the Badoc coast, which is slowly gaining a reputation as treasure spot for surfers.
