LOCAL GOVERNMENT and private officials, national police personnel, the academe, and employees of the Ilocos Norte provincial government (PGIN) gathered at the Provincial Capitol in the morning of June 12 to commemorate the country’s 118th Independence Day. World War II veteran and Veterans Federation of the Philippines”Ilocos Norte Chapter district commander Alfredo Domingo, was also present. Symbolic of Ilocano resilience, a Philippine flag made of the durable handwoven fabric “abel Iloko” was the main highlight of the ceremony, along with a wreathlaying ceremony at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal in front of the Capitol grounds and a 21-gun salute. These have become traditional for the PGIN Independence Day commemorations. The said flag was made by the Paoay Loomweavers Association.
