Ilocos Norte chosen as venue for international rowing event

PAOAY, ILOCOS NORTE—Paoay Lake—a 387-hectare body of water located a few kilometers south of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte—is the official venue for the 71st ARAEFEARA International Regatta which will commence on January 13-20, 2013.

After almost two decades, the Amateur Rowing Association of the East—Far East Amateur Rowing Association or     ARAE-FEARA, will hold its annual international regatta.

again in the Philippines, now to be hosted by the oldest existing sports club in the country, the Manila Boat Club or MBC. With an aim of promoting the sport and the local tourism at the same time, MBC had chosen to support the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte’s all-out tourism campaign, “Paoay Kumakaway!”.

In its official website, MBC has termed the Paoay Lake as a ‘onestop shop’ suited for the international participants and tourists alike because of its promising package of sceneries—a surrounding green forest, a neighboring 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Player, and the overlooking Malacañang of the North—and its 10-minute-ride distance from the Laoag International Airport. The famous Paoay Sand Dunes is also just five minutes away from the lake.

This event, in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, aims to inaugurate Paoay Lake as a premier destination for local and international rowing events.
