Paoay – While Ilocos Norte is busy promoting its tourism tagline, “Paoay Kumakaway”, the more than 300-year old Paoay Church is also undergoing a major facelift. At present, laborers of a construction firm have put some scaffolds and temporary braces of bamboo poles at the church façade, including a yellow hazard ribbon, warning the public of “falling debris” while restoration is on-going. Architect Reynaldo Inovero, chief of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) historic preservation division said the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) granted at least P1.5 million for the restoration of the church façade.
