The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is seeking the help of tribal leaders and Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) in Ilocos Norte and its neighboring provinces in Region 1 to draft a module on the community Family Development Session (FDS) for Indigenous Peoples (IPs). Among the IPs that inhabit the province are Kankanaey, Tinggian, Kalinga, Isneg, Yapayao and Bago and other tribes from the lowlands. The module designed for IPs is meant to gather the inputs of some tribal leaders who are familiar with their communities and make recommendations on how to further improved the implementation of the Patawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) being carried out under the Duterte administration. The FDS module, serves as a guide during a monthly gathering of 4Ps beneficiaries in each barangay. It is organized once a month for two hours usually attended by a parent such as the mother or a qualified guardian. It intends to furnish the recipients with knowledge and skills that are important to their everyday lives. Specifically, contents of the module with inputs from the National Commission on Indigenous peoples (NCIP) will benchmark and focus on the IP socio-economic activities, socio-cultural traditions, beliefs based on their specific needs, systems and practices to promote self-determined IPs.
