Members of the Ilocos Norte Sangguniang Panlalawigan unanimously approved on July 18 a resolution requesting Laoag City mayor Chevylle and husband, vice mayor Michael Fariñas to take a leave of absence pending an investigation of the missing P90 million funds from the city government coffers. More than a month after the irregularity was uncovered, both the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BGF) and the Commission on Audit (COA) have yet to release a final audit report. Former Laoag City government treasurer Maria Elena Asuncion, who was singularly implicated in the issue, is also still missing since June 13.
