Laoag City is One of the Best Cities in the World

LAOAG CITY and former Mayor now Vice Mayor Michael V. Fariñas were recently recognized as one of the best cities in the world and best manager internationally, respectively by the Europe Business Assembly (EBA), Corporation of Social Partnership based in Oxford, United Kingdom.

Incumbent Laoag Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas expressed her happiness and deepest thanks to the people behind EBA for choosing Laoag City as one of the best cities in the world and her congratulations to her husband, the former mayor. The Socrates Community nominated the city and the mayor in the sphere of city and administrative management.

The award is in recognition for the city’s reputation for effective city management and its constant growth and attractiveness for tourists.

The city of Laoag was cited for its dynamic development, high investment, tourism potential and attractive image during the Complex Investment Tourist and Recreational Opportunities survey of the World Travel destinations held in 2012-2013 by the EBA Analytic Centers in Oxford, UK.

It was learned that the awards function of Laoag was presented on its “World Travel Destinations and Resorts: City Planning, Recreation, Social Sphere and Tourism” during the Swiss Summit of Leaders and awarding held on July 1-2, 2013 in Monteux, Switzerland.

The summit was attended by about 30 countries in the world where they had the chance to promote and campaign for their respective cities or places to attract tourists and broaden their international relations.

But according to Ms Fariñas, the former mayor failed to attend the summit because it coincided with the inauguration of the newly elected officials in the city.

The lady mayor believes that EBA sees the potentials of Laoag in the field of business and investments, and the influx of domestic and foreign tourists being one of the best tourist destinations in the country.

The EBA sent the trophy and a certificate for the city government of Laoag and also a certificate and a medal for the city mayor as Best Manager.

She said that being one of the best cities in the world is one of the best accomplishments and recognitions the city government has received as it is the first international award the city has so far received.

As the new Laoag mayor, she said she was inspired by the lessons that the former mayor has shown and she promised to do her best to continue his programs and projects for the city.
