Solsona


Solsona is a triangular municipality where rivers have grown wild. Four rivers and their many tributaries stretch across the municipality and more than make up for Solsona’s lack of access of the sea. River resorts have capitalized on the attraction of these scenic natural resources and have steadily lured visitors including those with access to beaches. Solsona was established in 1880.


Solsona is a triangular-shaped municipality occupying the easternmost region of Ilocos Norte. It borders the plateaus leading up to the towering Cordillera Mountains. Tucked inland, Solsona does not have access to the sea. However, visitors can hunt wildlife in the forested terrain surrounding the municipality. Venison from wild boar meat can be bought at the market. One might even chance upon delightful native cheese at the market. Suggested Itinerary

  • Visit or stay in the resorts along the banks of the Gasgas and the Madangan Rivers. These resorts offer activities form swimming and picnicking to rock climbing and riding the old fashioned cable car (galong-galong).
  • The Galong-galong Resort offers a cable-car ride across the river. The galong-galong was built as an alternative means of transportation during the rainy season when the river swells.
  • Visitors can also hunt wildlife in the forested terrain surrounding the municipality.
  • Venison from wild boar meat can be bought at the market. Meat is sold fresh or salted.
  • Visitors might chance upon delightful native cheese at the market made from cow and water buffalo milk
