January
A one-stop licensing shop for businesses was set in one corner of the Laoag City Hall.

February 2
Just into the beginning of the Laoag City fiesta, the City’s Vice Mayor Jimmy O. Chua was gunned down in the Eagle’s Nest Bar and Restaurant on Barangay Salet, Laoag.

February 24
Inauguration of the Ilocos Norte Tourism, Trade and Investment Center (INTTIC), housed within the Museo Ilocos Norte compound. The INTTIC replaced a similar establishment known as Sarusar.

May 6-8
“Northern Summit 2005”, the first trade and investment Center (INTTIC), at Fort Ilocandia.

June 18
The first phase of the first wind power plant not only in the country but in Southeast Asia was inaugurated at Saoit, Barangay Pagali, Burgos. The project, now managed by Northwind Development Corporation, was estimated to cost P60 million when it began in 2001 under the aegis of the Philippine National Oil Corporation. Initial financial assistance was provided by the Danish International Development Agency. The power plant is composed of 15 turbines, each at a height of 70 meters the equivalent of a 23-storey building the wind farm can generate a maximum capacity of 25 megawatts. The second phase of the project will be assisted by the Aboitiz group of companies.

September 4
Ilocos Norte: a Travel Guidebook, published by the Gameng Foundation, won the National Book Award in the Travel category.

September 21-23 (2005)
Gov. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. including four (4) official delegates and four (4) un-official delegates attended and participated in the China Shandong (Jinan) Twin Cities Tourism Conference sponsored by the China National Tourism Administration, the Chinese People’s Association, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the Provincial Government Shandong Provincial People’s Government in Jinan, Shandong, China. From more than 122 cities in 40 countries attended and gathered in Shandong for extensive and deepened tourism exchange and cooperation.

September 22
‘Labuyo’ aftermath Ilocos Norte, LC declared under state of calamity, packing sustained winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour, typhoon “Labuyo” caused an estimated P50 million in damages to infrastructure and agriculture in the province after it lashed out at Ilocos Norte.

October 26-28
The 26th National Conference on Local and National History was held at the Mariano Marcos State University in Batac. This Year’s conference was held by the Philippine National Historical Society in coordination with the Gameng Foundation, INTTIC, the MMSU, and the office of the Governor.

November 12
Museo Ilocos Norte celebrates 5th year anniversary; the history continues.
